AI Software Engineer

About the Role

Join our engineering team to build AI-powered features that transform how micro-entrepreneurs run their businesses. You'll work on cutting-edge technology including LLMs, recommendation systems, and intelligent automation across our ChopQ and ChopMoni platforms.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement AI/ML features for our mobile and web applications
• Build and maintain data pipelines for training and inference
• Collaborate with product and design teams to create intelligent user experiences
• Integrate large language models (LLMs) for conversational interfaces and automation
• Optimize models for performance in low-bandwidth environments
• Write clean, maintainable code following best practices
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
• Stay current with AI/ML trends and bring innovative ideas to the team

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Strong programming skills in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Understanding of machine learning fundamentals (supervised/unsupervised learning, neural networks)
• Experience with at least one ML framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
• Familiarity with REST APIs and modern web development
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team
• Passion for building technology that makes a difference in Africa

Nice to Have

• Experience with LLMs and prompt engineering (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
• Knowledge of RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) systems
• Mobile development experience (React Native, Flutter)
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Previous work on products serving African markets
• Contributions to open-source projects
